About Dr. Nirmala Rai
Dr. Nirmala Rai is an experienced Gynaecological Oncologist in Bangalore with more than 12 years of clinical experience in the diagnosis, surgical treatment and comprehensive management of cancers affecting the female reproductive system.
She is a Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology at SPARSH Hospital and has undergone extensive UK-accredited specialist training in gynaecological cancer care.
Dr. Nirmala Rai completed her MBBS from Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, followed by DNB training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Martha’s Hospital, Bengaluru.
She later completed MRCOG and FRCOG qualifications through the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the United Kingdom and undertook CCT and superspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology in London.
Her advanced training included experience at leading centres such as St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital, where she developed expertise in complex gynaecological cancer surgery and multidisciplinary cancer care.
Dr. Nirmala Rai specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, uterine and endometrial cancer, vulvar cancer and vaginal cancer.
Her surgical expertise includes both open and minimally invasive approaches for primary and recurrent gynaecological malignancies, including complex ovarian cancer surgery and cytoreductive procedures.
She also has advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of pre-cancerous conditions involving the cervix, uterus and vulva, including colposcopy-based evaluation and management.
Dr. Nirmala Rai completed an MD research degree from the University of Birmingham, UK, with research focusing on diagnostic biomarkers and combination testing for ovarian cancer.
Her clinical interests also include HPV-related disease, ovarian cancer biology, cancer genetics, enhanced recovery after surgery, patient prehabilitation and personalised cancer treatment strategies.
With additional training in palliative care medicine, she provides holistic support for patients with advanced cancers, including symptom management, quality-of-life support and coordinated multidisciplinary care.
